YAY! I won the lottery...again! Okay. Not quite the lottery but it must feel like this! Nature is doing its glorious thing again and we are the benefactors. Can you spell 'lotsa leaves?"
Some folks might think me 'cracked.' But when I see leaves on the ground, grass, driveway, in the gutters, along the street curbs and clogging the drains on our streets, I think, "look at all that rich compost material. It is just waiting to be raked up, chopped up, bagged up and put back into the landscape!"
Our leaf-raking season here in Tulsa, is the longest I've ever experienced. With the abundant varieties of deciduous and evergreens, we also have different leaf-fall times; the show begins in October and goes all the way into the new year. Fallen leaves are a part of our natural landscape for several months each year.
Raking is great but my best friends during this time of year are my mulching bag on the lawnmower and my electric Black & Decker Blower/Vac LeafHog. The bag on the LeafHog fills quickly but makes perfect mincemeat of the leaves and prepares them for speedy breakdown in the garden beds and compost piles. Whole leaves will eventually break down but can also harbor unwanted disease in an area you hope to plant next year's garden.
Time to get outside and start raking and chopping and redistributing nature's wealth. Take advantage of this free commodity.
I am one with the leaf.
