Time to refashion a t-shirt

Most of us have an abundance of t-shirts in the house.  Sometimes we even wear them.  If you have an extra and it happens to be a size too large, even better.  You can refashion your t-shirt and use it as a cover-up.  Need to color your hair, paint some shelves, clean your oven or make a quick smock for your grandchild?  This is a perfect clothing protector.  I saw this idea in a magazine and thought it another perfect example of 'thinking outside the box.'

Sort through your stack of 't-shirts for donation' pile.  Most everybody has one.  Choose a t-shirt that hangs comfortably on your frame, a size or two larger is even better.  With sharp scissors, cut the t-shirt open, up the middle of the front, from hem to neck.  Now you have a t-shirt that you can put on like you would don a button-up shirt.  This is so much easier than pulling a t-shirt up and over your head.  Pretty cool, huh?

If sewing is not your thing, you can use your refashioned t-shirt just like this, securing the front of your t-shirt with a few pieces of duct tape.  I grabbed a couple of  home-made ties -- refashioned from other t-shirts on a previous project -- and quickly stitched them to front of the t-shirt so I could keep the front of my t-shirt closed..  You could also use some ribbon or shoe laces or simple strips of fabric.

This t-shirt was given to me as a volunteer teaching 5th graders about water conservation and recycling.  It was a very good day spent doing something worthwhile.  It makes me happy that I have come up with a use for the t-shirt that keeps on being useful.
