Living Green wrapping up 2016
Hard to believe I've been writing this column for South Tulsa Living for well over a year now. As we get ready to greet a new year and bid farewell to 2016, I look back on a year of 'Living Green One step at a time' columns with gratitude and a sense of accomplishment. Once again, I want to say thank you to the publisher, Candy Trenary, and editor, Terri Jeffers, for allowing me huge leeway in writing anything my little heart desires. They are both gracious and supportive in all ways and I am so lucky to know these women.

Beginning in 2017, I'll be contributing quarterly rather than monthly (March, June, September, and December). Fewer articles, less writing, but researched, penned, and submitted with the same enthusiasm I currently maintain for all things living green, one of my favorite topics.
December's article was fun to write and even more enjoyable to photograph. These decorations are so easy to make and can be put together quickly anytime you have need of an impromptu centerpiece. Use what you have on hand...glass jars, greenery clipped from outside, flowers in season, ribbon or twine...

I'd never heard of rose rosette virus until I moved to Tulsa. If your KnockOuts or other beloved rose bushes are looking sick, read on. Your roses could have the rose rosette disease.

The folks at South Tulsa Living just keep doing it better and better with every issue. Couldn't have been more pleased with my column in the June issue of our neighborhood magazine. Thanks, Candy and Terri and Matt, for making me look so good!

Going the extra mile
While putting the finishing touches on my Living Green column for the South Tulsa Living May 2016 edition, it came to my attention I had not yet posted my most recent article from this month's publication.
Here it is! Part 2 in a two-part series on recycling here in Tulsa. Would love to hear some feed back on how you handle these items that are not recyclable in your curbside program. Every place is a little different. Educate me on what folks are doing in your part of the country!

February's Column
This is my first column for South Tulsa Living that talks about our recycling program. Tulsa has such a great program, I thought it was time to give the city its due and talk about how far the city's residents have come in the last few years. Talking on the phone with one of the folks at the Recycling Center I learned all kinds of cool things. Also learned a couple of things that I thought would be helpful to pass along to the neighborhood readership.

Krafting Gift Wrap
Thanks, South Tulsa Living, for featuring my Living Green...one step at a time column for December's issue. I loved doing the photo shoot for this one and only wish I'd had real gifts to wrap way back in October when I wrote this article. That would have been too smart.
Here's wishing you all a very Merry Christmas!

Leaves are magical
The latest addition to my library of monthly columns, this appeared in the November 2015 issue of South Tulsa Living. For those of you who know me, raking and mulching leaves isn't my favorite thing to do. But I do love what these little wispy pieces of carbon can do in the garden, once they sit a spell and are allowed to break down.

Pumpkin Spiced Latte
| The photo on the far left looks a little like Elmo, doesn't it? |
Normally a blog about pumpkin spice lattes would be found on my Talkin' About Food blog. Oh, that's right, it is on my food blog. But for today's purposes, I wanted to post my South Tulsa Living LIVING GREEN column on my Living Green blog. Thoroughly confused now, right? No worries. All that matters if that you have a gander at this article if you like pumpkin spice lattes and would like to know how to make them in your own kitchen.

And if you have no interest in drinking these delectable fall beverages then take a look anyway, if for no other reason than to check out what a fine job our folks at the South Tulsa Living Neighborhood Newsletter did with October's LIVING GREEN column. Short but sweet. Get it? Sweet? Seems only right that it be posted here.
October may be over this year, but we've got plenty of fall days ahead. Drink up!
“It was time to take the pumpkin out of the pot and eat it. In the final analysis,
that was what solved these big problems of life. You could think and think and get
nowhere, but you still had to eat your pumpkin. That brought you down to earth.
That gave you a reason for going on. Pumpkin.”

Column Launch
Such an honor and a treat to be invited to write a monthly column on a subject near and dear to my heart. With such a broad spectrum of topics to choose from, I can allow my imagination and interests to rule the day. Thank you, Candy Trenary, Publisher of South Tulsa Living, for inviting me to join your Neighborhood Newsletter as a resident writer. And thank you, Terri Jeffers, Editor of STL, for helping give me a vision of how Living Green could be a beneficial addition to the magazine's readership.
Thank you, Brenda Horan, for making us all look good!!
This first contribution didn't exactly write itself, but the idea did niggle and nudge loud enough to give me time to flesh it out on paper. I look forward to making future contributions. The process will be full of learning and exploration for me, too. Hope you will join me on this journey, one column and idea at a time.
